A beautiful book. Dark, midnight dark, but filled with heart, and the writing is absolutely stunning. The depth with which Anne Enright portrays her characters is impressive and as a result they are completely believable, beyond believable, in fact, they are alive. She makes it look easy, organic, effortless -- the mark of a wonderful writer. My only criticism is that the crisis point seemed a bit tired. I would have liked to see Enright push the plot into new territory, rather than that which seemed a bit obvious.
